Just a little story from my way back from Italy.
As you all probably are aware, then here in Europe, car theft is a big issue and especially now when borders are wide open to countries …. emmm….. how shall I put it ….. to countries where a scruples person can get away with almost anything just as long as he knows the right people. (red. paying the right people!)
Well – just to make a long story short, as I came into Germany from Austria the German police was on me.
I guess I had ben driving in Germany about 10 to 20 min. when I saw a big BMW hiding under a bridge in the shadow …. I saw it and I instantly knew it was the police.
I watch the rear mirror and just as I predicted, they came after me with high speed.
When they were up on my side I sneaked at them ….. that couldn’t be right …. That’s only a kid sitting in the passenger side …. hmmm. Suddenly they went fast in front of me and an electric sign went up:
“POLIZE” and “FOLLOW ME” - (yeah … in English)
What to do?
Of course I followed them (it was daytime) and after a short while there was a small place to park on the Autobahn ( guess it was made for this).
I had to park on their right side and when so, they both came to me with bathes and pistols at their sides. (maybe for US guys this is a common thing but when you are an ordinary fellow from Denmark, then this is existing things!) What stroke me was so young those guys was – not more than 25 – well – they were very polite and dressed in civil.
They took all papers and went to their car to check me and the car out. After 8 to 10 min. they came out and told me everything was OK and I could go on.
After they had this confirmed they were more interested in the car – they thought the car was very fine and asked a lot about the technical details etc.
So; after some minutes of chatting they wished me a good trip home and went into their BMW and started to drive off.
Suddenly they stopped (I had by this time entered my own car and watched them in my rear mirror) they came back to me from behind and stopped their engine –
I was thinking Now what?
Then the guy at driver’s seat called at me: “heyy - Können wir den Motor hören bitte?“
I just smiled and started up – giving a little throttle (they parked right behind me) and they both smiled big:
"Wie ein Klang…. wie ein Klang….. "
So… even in the home country of SL55AMG; this car makes people look, admire and making them proud.

Before I bought the car I did a rundown of the it's history and I was of the opinion that most major issues are taken care of ……. ha ha ha … so naive !
I have now been driving it for eight month and put some 12.000 km. on it bringing it to a total of 141.000 km. I like the speed but don’t drive it hard. It has performed very well – never had any issues with it – only had to change a single bulb for the registration sign. I have used it every day and I love my car and I am planning to keep it but I’m not blind to the fact that it cost to have this kind of car running and in shape.
The story for REPAIRS in short for my car is as followed:
