Valhalla and the Vikings

Valhalla (Norse “Valhöll” - "the hall of the beaten" ) is in Norse mythology Odin's home in Asgard.

It is the home of the “Einherjar”, the Vikings who die honorably in battle ("Val" means "battleground" or "beaten").  Valhalla has 540 gates, and there are 800 fighters out at once by each gate. The roof is covered with golden shields and walls are made of spears.

The “Einherjar” struggle daily with each other to train for the fight against the Giants at Ragnarok, and every night the fallen are resurrected by the Valkyries and returned to Valhalla, where they eat pork cut of the pig Saerimner and drinking mead. The name Valhalla is the Anglo-Saxon version of the name Valhal.
